Great band experience with my 4001C64 FG ...

Howdy everyone! My name is Clay and years ago I used to have a 78 4001MG but foolishly sold it.
Last year I picked up a 4001C64 in yummy FireGlo, and wanted to tell you about my
last band practice with it.

My band is newly formed, and I'm lucky enough to play with a really great drummer and
guitar player. They are not those that feel they have to fill up every crack and crevice
with notes, but understand it is better to hold back a bit to let the song breath.

Anyway, I've had the bass for about a year, and then I came across this forum and heard about
the cap bypass. Holy Cripes what a difference!

When I pulled the Rick out at practice, they eyes literally bugged out of their head. "What a beautiful bass man", and "a real work of art" were some of the statements heard. The guitar player started to sweat!

Then I fired up the Ampeg SVT and 810! Bwahahahaha ...

I've never ever heard anything so warm, big, and in your face in all my life! My bass really
came alive with that cap bypass (man those horseshoes are the cats meow!). I don't have
to say what a joy it was to play my Rickenbacker.

When practice was over, everyone told me that they had never heard a bass with such
presence in their whole life.

What a great compliment to Mr. Hall and everyone at Rickenbacker.

Yep that's me Jeff (I'm the one on the right!).

BTW - I had a dickens of a time convincing Peter that my name really is Clay Person when I first registered. I'm glad he finally got tired of my persistent email requests and let me in!

BTW, you might want to see if Peter would move this to the Basses section as you will get a lot more out of this there rather than in the C section.

Welcome to the forum, Clay. Nice family, especially the C64! I used to have a '76 Fender Precision that looked exactly like yours.

That cap bypass works wonders dosen't it Clay? That's a real nice C64 you have there. I love mine too. Of all my Ricks, it's my favorite; and they are all great basses. I had a '76 P-Bass like that except mine had a white pickguard. I sold it many, many moons ago. BTW, welcome to our growing group.

Thanks everyone so much for your kind responses. The P-Bass is a real nice guitar and since I play alot of Pink Floyd, nails Rogers tone quite nicely (BTW - did anyone get a chance to see his 2007 tour - man what a show!).

I have to say that the C64 blows all the rest out of the water for playability, it just feels so right!

Below is a close look a the FireGlo when I was doing a trussrod adjustment and string change.

I think that pickguard shape is the way to go, so I had Tony at Pickguardian make me one along with the finger rest for my 4001V63.
