4003 pickguards
i have a '88 w/ black trim and a '97 FG. i tried to swap pickguards and the holes did not line up. I'd like to buy a black pg for my '97. where can i get one that i can be sure that it will fit (w/o sending my p/g or a trace of it to somebody to cut it custom for me?

+1. Tony at Pickguardian will give you top quality, and if you specify year and model, he will come through.

i know of tony - in fact i just ordered a 600-series black p/g set from him last week. he only lists "4003 series - fits most ...". i have two 4003's, all original, with p/g holes that don't line up exactly the same (and who never did, unless the 88 shrunk more or something). so i guess the only way to find out whether his p/g's are compatible w/ my '87 is to send my guard or a trace to him.

The one he made for my '72 fit like a glove, but yeah: better safe than sorry. I'd send a trace.

As someone who makes custom stuff (not guitar related) but who has also made pickguards for two of my Rickenbackers, do the right thing and send a tracing. Nice guards take time to make and you don't just move an errant hole over an eigth of an inch in plexiglass. You start over from scratch. Tony will do this for you without a problem if one doesn't fit, but it doesn't help his bottom line much to have to do a job over a second time for free. Send a tracing. It takes the guesswork out of the process. You'll know they'll fit and he'll only have to do the job once.
