When did YOU first see Chris Squire and Yes?

Got dragged to see them in summer 2002 at PNC Bank Arts Center in New Jersey. I actually had my 4003 at the time but was not familiar with CS.

I can clearly remember him getting on the mic, introducing the next song as "about fish", then going into that 7/4 bass solo with the harmonics.

To see the band now, I think i'd appreciate it far more.

started listening in 1968,by the time yes got to memphis in 1972,the week of my highschool graduation,i was crazed to see them live,as i had worn out the lp's of their first 5 albums. the eagles opened,and were enjoyable,if not my cup of tea at the time. the show was basically like the yessongs live album,and was fantastic-i loved it,but at the same time was initially crushed that bill bruford was not there-but alan was equally great in his own way. i have seen them on every tour since then,except for drama,which i truly wish i could have gotten to-some of my favorite music,that.

For me, it was June 1979 at the old Boston Garden. It was my second concert ever and I had 5th row seats. Here is a picture I took of Chris at that show...

No zoom used. It was great to be that close!

Sorry for the graininess. I'm sure it was a ****** camera and it's a very old picture.

The first time was around 1969 at the Kirklevington Country Club (The Kirk) in England.

Wow, that's gotta be the earliest yet, Peter! How large was the venue at that time at The Kirk? Our country clubs around here for golfers are tantamount to private parties, with rarely more than a hundred or so in attendance. What was the performance like, if you can remember your impressions in detail?

Probably around 50 to 100 people actually in the club but the 'main stage' room only took about 30 or 40 from what I remember. It wasn't really a country club, more a wild 'disco cum live rock band' venue in a small village (Kirklevington) a few miles from Teesside, Northern England.

I'll have to add what happened when I saw the bad for the third and last time, probably in 1979. They were playing in the round for that tour, again in Pittsburgh's arena. The band was about halfway through "Awaken" when I noticed a fan very stealthily making his way through the crowd, very close to the stage. The next thing anyone knew, he was onstage, standing directly behind Jon Anderson. When the roadies bolted to get him, the fan grabbed Jon in a bear hug and lifted him off the ground. What happened next was a real melee: It looked like one of those cartoon fights where all you see is a ball of arms and legs. Steve Howe ran to grab his guitar rack as the "ball" bounced around the stage. While all this was happening, Jon and the fan came out of the back of the ball, untouched, Jon with his arm around the fan's shoulder, talking to him. Jon finally pointed t the stairs at the back of the stage, which the fan descended into the arms of waiting police. Jon then went back to hi mic and picked up singing exactly where he left off. Incredible poise.

1980 Drama tour at the Amphitheater in Chicago. In the round, 16th row. They opened with Does it Really Happen with CS on his non-rev T-bird. Of course he was all the way 'round the other side of the stage for most of the outro solo

Great times. I spent a LOT of time learning that record. Machine Messiah!

Got it, Peter! It was held Saturday, July 26, 1969, at Kirklevington Country Club, and the lineup was Jon Anderson, Peter Banks, Bill Bruford, Tony Kaye, and Chris Squire. The missing element I did not have was the size of the venue: 30 to 40 in the main stage room. Thanks!

September 1978 for Tormato in Long Beach, CA. I have a bunch of photos like Greg Horton's on the previous page, including a couple shots of Howe's guitars and Wakeman's keyboards.

I had the opportunity in '75, but at 16, wasn't permitted to drive into Hartford, CT to see the show. So, it wasn't until '78, Tormato, in Ft Worth TX that my dream came true. Got my first Ric 4001 in '79, and still can't pull off those CS riffs. It's been fun trying, for sure.
