The Cavern Beat

Post by melibreits »

Just got back from a terrific evening out in my little town of Grand Marais, Minnesota--my husband took me to see the Cavern Beat, a great Beatles tribute band that specializes in their earlier songs.... Tickets were general admission, and we got there early enough to get front-and-center seats, a great place to thoroughly enjoy the show.... they had every song nailed perfectly, and it was a real treat to hear "George's" shiny brand-spankin' new 360/12 C64--what a SWEET looking and sounding guitar it was (although the Country Gentleman certainly wasn't bad, either). Their "John" did a fine job, too, although he played a 350 rather than a 325....and it looked like it could have used a good Scratch-X and Zymol treatment, LOL! Image Anyway, it was a fun night in a town where normally nothing much happens after 5pm....

Sounds great.... yup, its a 350 he's using, but I have sympathy since the 325 is so tiny and hard (for me anyways) to play.

Speaking of 350's, I just bought a Mapleglo 350v63 from The Music Zoo. They received 3 of them and I was lucky enough to contact them just at the right time before they disappeared. I LOVE IT. I had to do some work on the action/pickup height as it arrived somewhat high. The small lightweight compact (21 fret) feel is great.

I've got gold pickguards on order from Pickguardian and am now wondering how to obtain a gold TRC without having to trade in the exisitng one (apologies to Mr Hall, but thats life). Perhaps I'll make a photocopy fake one and see how it looks before making the final commitment. However from what they say on the Ric Forum RIC wouldn't allow me to trade in a white one for a gold one anyways. I guess I'll call them to confirm this.

Kent, I know exactly what you mean about loving your 350.... I just got my dream guitar, a 350v63 in Blueburst last Tuesday, and it is amazing.... Image

I played my first 350 at Steves Music in Montreal (jetglo)... FANTASTIC guitar! and a fantastic price! I thought it'd be 600 bucks more than what they were charging!

I got mine for $1999 (total including shipping) from Music Zoo. Thats a better price than the big sellers like MF and they're backordered for next years models anyways. I'm curious what Steves Music was selling it for.

2 grand is not cheap by any stretch of the imagination but I do love it .... its now hard for me to pick up any of my other 12 guitars, and that includes the two 360s.

I recently moved and am still somewhat in transition so I haven't had a chance to play it in a band setting, but doing a quick side-by-side sound check vs a 360, shows the toasters to be more trebbly and less of a full sound than the semihollow 360. This is my first try at toaster pickups and is pretty much what I expected. Its a different sound than the 360 (which I'm glad of), not as full and rich, but I'm sure the 350v63 will find it's place once I get a band going.

Steves had theirs for pennies more... about 30 000 pennies more! Canadian dollars though, which is still more than the 1999US by about 260$. sounds like you got a great deal!
