4004 Black Laredo Five String (Shadow?)

Post by markbass99 »

Been working on this a couple days, finishing the nut, getting the setup just the way I like it. It turned out really good and plays great, the neck is very nice and very adjustable, which can be a concern on the ones like this that have the pickup off the neck(lack of trussrod access). I'm not sure if I'm sold on the .125" B string that comes with these Black Beauty strings, the only B that I've really been satisfied with so far on this scale bass is the LaBella HRS .128". This bass is an 04 with walnut wings(can't see them unless you drill through the paint), I thought the walnut didn't show up until the pickup moved back against the neck. I'll probably do the VVT mod later since that's they way I like the controls on these.

HB1's all the way, they're great pickups, especially through a Markbass amp with DR rounds.

This bass is really cool to play, I've never had an all black bass and when I look down the "blackness" of everything is overwhelming. Now I know what Sean is talking about.(And Brian) Image

Hey Mark,

Did you use black screws for the pickup covers? I have an all black Laredo as well that Jeff Rath converted for me and I have chrome screws that I would like to retrofit with black.

Thanks,
Paul

Paul, I didn't use pickup covers, I just took the chrome ones off. I found some black 4/40 threaded machine screws to put in the holes. There are still silver wood screws attaching the pickups to the body as well as the TRC.
