I love this LP/Cd and would love to see the whole issue of Crosby's removal rectified once and for all, from the audio as well as the visual.

Meaning...isn't there a group shot before the horse head and isn't the back shot around where David's head isn't airbrushed out? You can see the area around the saddle is different than the rest of the shot/photo.

As to the audio...Crosby has always insisted that Roger and Chris took his songs and rewrote the lyrics and recut the tracks. Well on the official Re-Mastered CD none of this has come to light. I wonder why? Are there nothing but rough demo tapes to be found, or just notes and no real studio tracks. It would have made for a much better CD-remaster to get ALL the studio tracks.

By the way ...this CD is still my favorite Byrds Cd, others follow closely but aurally this one moves me.

Mark, why don't you just Email Croz and ask him
if he was originally at that photo shoot?

Whatever the issues were in the past, it would seem that the "Old Song Byrds" have been able to iron things out, at least for the moment. At least in so far as it looks below.

Gee, Chris is grown up now, so I guess he can stand wherever he wants.I have more of a problem
with why his hair is so short[since we are being
Tom here, uh, I mean petty].And when was the last time you saw Chris with a Jazz Bass? Late 64, early '65, before he went thru the Guild Starfire
bass period,and finally back to a Fender again
but this time a P Bass.Go have your fruitcup,but check for fuzzy stuff growing on it. I heard it has a short shelf life[LOL!!]

Speaking of The Notorious Byrd Brothers LP/CD, I wonder what the Croz thinks about Pink Floyd's subtle reworking of The Byrds' "Draft Morning" into "Us And Them" off the Floyd's huge The Dark Side Of The Moon LP/CD. Ever notice the striking similarities between those two songs? The really mellow verse sections, the extra loud & thunderous chorus sections, the military lyrical content, etc., etc.? (Click on the Byrds & Floyd LP/CD photos below for a brief mp3 sound clip of each song.)

In my opinion, having listened to the two songs in full many times over, I'd have to conclude that Pink Floyd were still avid Byrd watchers in 1973.

Terry: An interesting similarity between "Draft Morning" and "Us and Them" for sure. I think that Pink Floyd's variation is "just" different enough to keep them out of trouble. There is a structural difference in the bar that begins "I hear you down below" in "Draft Morning" that I don't hear in the Pink Floyd variation. Thanks for this observation as I had never noticed this before. I guess I will have to get out more.

I didn't mean to suggest that Pink Floyd lifted "Draft Morning" note for note or anything, since there are variations between the two songs, as you have rightly noted. I just felt that there were enough more-than-incidental similarities that "Us And Them" could arguably be traced directly to The Byrds' "Draft Morning" as a very real influence or inspiration. Classic tunes, though, both of them, wouldn't you say? Some of my long-time favourites, anyway.

Did you catch Croz playin' acoustic 12-string with Stills & Nash on David Letterman last night? (Or do you get Letterman on Canadian telly?)

Terry: I appreciated the spirit of your comments and understood from the outset that you were commenting on the similarity of the two compositions and not that Pink Floyd copied The Byrds. They are indeed highly similar. Have you heard Pink Floyd say that they enjoyed The Byrds' music. No, sorry I missed Crosby on Letterman.

There was a night on the last year of Johnny carson when CSN played and sat on the couch with Mel Brooks....very good performance plus it was an extremely funny show.Graham and Mel traded quips.

Oh "Sacred Arnquist," you mean you also missed Santana on Leno, and The Wild Nuge playing "Journey..." then launching into "Cat Scratch Fever" on Conan just as Vice Presidential candidate Senator Joe Lieberman finished singing "I did it my way" and was still taking applause last night? Vice Presidente Al Gore, Father of the Internet, was Letterman's guest before CrozS&N came on, too, you know. The Sixties are alive and well in the race to be Prez. You gotta break away from that computer screen and live once in a while, Oh Great Spray Gun of Knowledge!

Good question ...it's was up in Topanga canyon .I don't know if it still stands there.I kind of doubt it ...I mean Southern California real estate prices and all being what they are ...I'm sure it's a Ralph's market by now .

that would be weird to use that photo if that was the case...
Im trying to figure out the connection on the covers...i wonder if Ronstadt and the Byrds had the same manager and its his house? did the byrds hang with the stone poneys?

Im sorry I dont know the west coast lingo, Ralphs market all we got down here in Tenny is Golden Gallons and Mr.Zip.... we did have 711s about 20 years ago....
