NYC weekend trip / 48th St. Music Shops 4001C64

Post by eddied »

Went to Sam Ash's on 48th St. Monday Oct.13 to find a 4001C64 on a wall hanger in a very un-adjusted shape and the reverse nameplate was MISSING. Someone had actually lifted it right off in the store and they just let it hang in hopes of selling it as is. I thought that the neck was just fair and the salesmen weren't concerned at all about the nameplate........ How disrespectful. BTW, Manny's doesn't even display Ricks anymore, claiming that they don't sell!!!!
Rick bass fanatic. I own and play several professionally. I have a passion for the S models.

I had that same problem at a Guitar Center. They had a 325v59 with no nameplate, they shrugged it off like "Eh, it must have broken off." He was going to try and get one from Rickenbacker but I think he failed as it's been a year and I haven't heard back from him. Then the guitar was discounted down to $700..

try rudy's or 48th street custom guitars ! I worked at a bank for serveral years and ash & manny's are not a good place to buy rics. there where you buy your first guitar, not your first good guitar. I saw a 380 FG at sam ash once with a rusted jack.

by the way, they're owned both by sam ash; that's why manny's does sell the rics.

go down the pike to NJ and visit pick of the ricks !!

You are correct. Rudy's had both a 4001C64S in the satin MapleGlo (that's all it comes in, right?) and a 4001C64 in FireGlo. Both were set up great. That was about 1 month ago.
I was told that I was the only one, besides himself, that had played the "Wings" one.
They were both incredible! If money wasn't an issue, I would have bought them right on the spot.
