As some of you already know, I am the very lucky new owner of the Fireglo 4003S/8 that just sold on ebay. What was advertised as a '96 4008 (no such thing!) is in fact a '93 4003S/8. And guys, I can't tell you what an amazing machine this is. I mean, besides it's overall awesomeness, it's in UNBELIEVABLE condition for its age. It looks like it's made of glass! She's a real gem. Even the vintage silver case it came in is spotless. WOW! It came with a Duncan treble pup installed, but the original high gain was included. I had it back on within hours and gigged with the bass the day I got it. First song with the 8 - Jeremy by Pearl Jam. Big stupid smiles from everyone in the band as soon as I played the opening riff. It's a wily beast that needs to be tamed, but it's worth the effort. There's some pretty nice wood grain, and the Fireglo is SWEET! Being a '93, it's a "fat horn" model like my '89 4003S. These are the most solid feeling Rics I've ever played, with the most comfortable necks. The fingerboard looks like a piece of fine furniture, and I could swear it's extra thick. It's a full 1/4''. I also removed the whole mute thing and relocated the ground wire. The old Ric tailpiece is a lot more manageable without the big thumb screws in the way. Oh, and I was pleasantly surprised to find out that a new nut was installed with the more common string arrangement eE-aA-dD-gG. Here's some pics for now. Not the greatest, but you'll get the idea!
