Mark Walker's debut CD

In the excitement of the upcoming Rick Forum CD, I felt motivated to pass the word that my own full-length debut CD 'Dysfunctional Illaureate' is available on CDbaby. You can also DL tunes from iTunes if you're cool with the MP3 sound quality, but with the CD you get the music presented in gorgeous, pristine, digital bits, plus a little bit o' cover art. That's awesome Mark. We had a conversation here about how you would get paid as an artist for somebody that buys from CDBaby vs. iTunes. It seemed like CDBaby would be better for you. Have you looked into this?

Thanks for the support, Greg! Currently, I have this CD on both CDbaby and iTunes, and a bunch of other DL sites as well (see all the links on my Myspace page.) So far I've made more sales on CDbaby, which is what I prefer, since the sound quality is best in CD form, and I'm kind of anal about the quality of music reproductions that end up on the open market. As far as getting paid to buy from CDbaby, no - I haven't heard about that. Definitely worth looking into, though. Thanks for the tip.

For the gear-heads: I used four different basses, all Ricks, on this CD:

1979 4001V63 JG
1979 4001SLH
1976 4001FL MG
1968 4001 MG

I love it!

Great tone, lots of growl, though not over the top. Heavily distorted bass, unless done very tastefully, just bugs me, and I really enjoy the tones on this disc.
The listener can still distinguish the character of the original, un-effected sound.
Well, done!

I've had my copy (from CD Baby, great service, BTW) for quite a while now, and anxiously await the release of 'Joy Bomb'.

Mark, which song can I hear the fretless on?

CD Baby is a great service. I bought a few of Jeffrey Scott's CDs there and they arrived very quickly.

Greg - Track 3 - 'Blind Road' has a fretless solo in the middle, and track 8 - 'Girl Behind Glass' features the fretless as the main bassline in the first half of the song, then the '79 4001V63 kicks in on both clean and mega-distorted tracks.

Thanks for the props, Kevin! I'm looking forward to the release of Joybomb, too! I used so many samples on this 2nd CD that it's going to take awhile to secure all the publishing permissions. I'll definitely post a release notice when it's suitable and ready for public consumption.

Thanks for the interest, guys! Cool to know about Jeff Scott's CD, too. I didn't know he had released one.

Eeeww! Yeah... just had a listen to my own samples off CDbaby. Fair warning: Those low-grade bitrate samples really sound like... well, low-grade bitrate samples. To get a better picture of what the CD actually sounds like, click on the "Play All Songs - hi-fi broadband link."

Folks go to Mark's web site - give a listen. If you like what you hear there (I do)- then just buy the spinning plastic disc from CDbaby. You will not regret it.

Here's something for the 4001 audiophiles out there. I was going through some pre-'Dysfunctional Illaureate' stuff and found this recording from a band I was in in the early-mid 90's called Lead Pipe Cinch. The song is called Rebirth and features my 1979 4001V63 JG played through an Acoustic 360 head and 2x15 cabinet loaded with JBL's. Check the fuzzy bass solo at the end. Break out the lighters, kids - this is Arena Rock at it's not-so-finest.

*Any resemblance between 'Rebirth' and 'Show, Don't Tell' by Rush and 'You Can't Kill Rock & Roll' by Ozzy is purely coincidental and entirely possible.*
