When did YOU first see Chris Squire and Yes?

I'm going to ask my former girlfriend about this "impossible" Fillmore East show- she may be less confused than I am! It's just that I can picture it so well...I'm pretty sure the next one I saw was in Gaelic Park, Bronx, with Humble Pie and Mountain. (summer '71) I know they did other shows with Humble Pie around this time, so I wonder if that 1st show was a last minute fill-in for somebody on Humble Pie's tour. Both these shows still had Tony Kaye on organ. I loved the fact that he wore leather pants and stood while playing! He was like a link to the combo organ/garage rock era! The show with Ten Years After was at Duke U., in Durham, NC. When you look this one up, there are accounts of people who were there, and the 1st person's account has Yes opening, which is wrong. But the next two accounts have it the other way around! Memory is a funny thing... Then I am pretty sure I saw them twice more at Greensboro Coliseum. By then Alan White was playing drums.

Mitch, I have a magazine from 71' called "A Tribute To The Fillmore" and they have a listing of the dates & lineups for all the shows at the Fillmore East from 3/8/69 until the closing on 6/27/71. There's no listing of YES in any lineup. Doesn't mean it didn't happen, but like you said maybe it was a last minute fill in.

Yeah, I'm thinking maybe with Humble Pie, since they seemed to do a number of dates with them. I only saw Humble Pie with Frampton once, and I'm sure it was at the Fillmore... Isn't it shocking what a short life the Fillmore East had? Sort of like The UFO Club, which was, what- 6 months? Anyway, for readers who suspect my memory of this (imaginary?) Yes show is surely the product of some intoxicated teenager's hallucination, I'll have you know that I saw this show with my parents and girlfriend and we were there strictly for the sounds! No more from me on this until I find the ticket!

February, 1974, Pittsburgh Civic Arena. It was the "Tales" tour, I was thirteen, the youngest kid there & the only one who knew all the words!

Pittsburgh on Feb 21st 1974, bitter cold, beer at the concession stand if you just said you were 21 (no ID check), and other vapourous things floating in the air, and the underwater set with the big manta ray's wings doubling as projection screens. That giant conch shell with the lights that pulsed before they came out of it onstage was weird.

That has to be one of the best shows ever, for early YES fans. We got to hear all the TFTO album that night, plus the rest: Firebird Suite by Wakeman to open, in the flowing cape and long hair, then most of CTTE in the first set: Siberian Khatru, And You And I, Close To The Edge, a break in the middle for intermission, then in straight order for the second set TFTO: The Revealing Science Of God, The Remembering, The Ancient, Ritual. Then for an encore, Roundabout

Wow.

There's that little elfin faery guy in the back. During this time of his stage career Chris had a very cool cat-like set of stage moves; not crazy flailing around at all but slow and slinky. Pretty cool.

This is the big opening to "Siberian Khatru."

It pretty much was that dark during the quiet intro part of "Heart of the Sunrise" with blue stage lighting and a tight magenta spot on Chris' bass.

We liked lots of red stage lighting in those days. You kids today with your Vari-Lites and your computer graphics. Why, in MY DAY all WE had were GELS on incandescent lighting cans!
