The first day I got her I realized she was a whole other beast. It's just that I'm stuggling with , what I think is an over bassy, undefineable E string. I tried a bunch of different strings and like the tone of the D'addario super brights. All the other strings sound unbelievable!! It's just the E I can't get a handle on, hence maybe swapping one of the pickups. Most people have a hard time obtaining a nice bottom from the E on their 4001. A simple tweak of the rods and a little bridge adjustment took care of that for me, but neither has worked on my 4004C. Maybe thats the way they sound, but I've listen to Rath's sound clips and his E sounds nice and defined. I have my 4001's for their tone, but I wanted to get a 4004C for it's darker tone. Regardless, I'll never let her go, but if I did you would be first Brian.

I really liked that Ci but I prefer the solid maple Laredo. I think the walnut makes things a little too dark for my liking. I had the same issues with my Cii. The LK doesn't suffer from that problem but I think the 3rd p/u right next to the bridge makes all of the difference.

I had the Ci strung BEAD with GHS Boomers and never had a problem with a defined E or B string so I'm not sure what to recommend.

Chris it sounds like your having the same battle I had. I finally realized that the Rick sound I prefered was that of a 4003, so I let mine go, (4004CII).

I wont give up on the 4004 series though,,,too cool,,,and I have to much respect for all the forum members that swear by their sound to give up..

I think my 4004 might be a Larado with the maple body.....now I just to decide on the finish..... I love walnut wings,,,but I've never had midnight blue or jetglo......,,,,,Arghhh!Image
