That last pic taken during the LIB/Get Back sessions above shows that Paul only had the front of the bass sanded off at first, for the neck and peghead are still Fireglow. Cool.

I saw a (Univox?) Ric copy made to look like his with psychedelic paint and all in Topeka once. They also had a Hondo Les Paul made up to look like George's from the Revolution clip. I only had the cash to get one, and got the Les Paul, and I've always kind of regretted it. I guess I would have either way.
Thanks!

Our lead guitarist just had a Les Paul painted like George's, looks great, especially sitting in the stand next to "Rocky".

My nephew and I are going to build our own Strat copies from a kit (his is going to be a 1/2 size because he's still very young and wants an electric guitar to learn on) and we're going to make a Rocky and a Rocky Jr. Does anybody have any experience making one? We basically just need to know what kind of paint to use.
Thanks!

I think George did the original with nail polish, didn't he?

He said something like "I bought these day-glo paints that were very hard to find, and they had an applicator tip so the paint came out very thick and rubbery and then I filled in the headstock with Patti's sparkley green nail varish."

But I have no idea about what kind of paint I should use on the body to get the look down.
Thanks!

Ronn, what type of paints did you use? Do you have any close up pictures?

My e-mail's [email protected] if you have any good shots. Any help that you could give me would be very much appreciated.
Thanks!

There was a guy on the bay, awhile back, that made a Rocky replica that was really nice. He also made replicas of the Hendrix "Monterey" strat, and Clapton's "Fool" SG.
There are some reviews on Harmony Central...

I painted mine about 10 years ago while studying for law school finals. It was a great way to clear the head. It took me about 6 weeks at 4-5 hours a night. I did it in water based paint and had my guitar tech clear coat it with House of Kolor clear. The clearcoat is so hard it took about a week to polish it out.
Soon after it was shown at a guitar show as a prop rather than to sell, and many people were asking "when did Fender re-issue the guitar?"
I painted it more aesthetically correct rather than making an exact replica with all the warts.

I'll shoot some recent shots and post them up.

The topic heading sounds funny!

"Rare Photo - McCartney Plays 4001S"

It conjures up an image that he hardly ever plays it and when he does, it's a rare photo opportunity!Image

Do remember what brand of paint you used or where you got it?
Thanks!
