Cool pic, Dave. I wondered what model that bass
was when I saw that video.

It also looked like he had a Roland synth pickup on it. (I had my binoculars at the show to check out the gear). But I don't have a pic of that. Maybe if you look close you can see it in the DVD. I'll have to look again.....

I thought thats what he had the Carvin for.

Maybe he got tired of the six strings?

Are any of his basses actually active? I know his Tobias basses are passive; there was an interview in (I think) Guitar World several years ago where Mike Tobias confirmed that. It's quite possible his Mouradian is too. Admittedly the above photo suggests his Carvin may be active.

Cool pic Scott. I never knew he did that with the Carvin. Maybe it just sounds better on the Reality bass......
Shaun, I don't know if it is active or not, but when I've seen him play the green Mouradian live, it sounds bloody great. It really cuts through in the mix. Does anyone know what kind of pickups it has? (Joe Barden??)

Scott Wrote: "This is supposed to be the first Mouradian made for Squire, but for some reason he didnt like it, and ended up getting the green one."

Not likely.

I've owned one of the Mouradian Basses. Most were made in Japan, only a few were made in Jim's shop in Mass. All the Japanese CS74's I've seen have Bartolini's installed at an angle. That black bass, the red one on ebay and the white one I had all HAD Bartolini's. (the ebay bass has had the Bart's replaced it looks like)

Jim told me Chris's green bass has Seymour Duncan P/Tele bass p/u's and he made the covers himself. That bass's pickups are mounted vertical

That black bass does show something interesting, the silver accent lines are in the shape of Chris's initials, CS like the Green one...

I agree Dave, the Mouradian does sound great live. I suspected it may be passive though. That' great info about the pickups Kenneth!

Seymore Duncan P/Tele pickups?

Wow! Never would have guessed that.

I love the tone of that bass.

I wonder, what version those SD Tele bass pickups are in that bass- vintage, hot, or Quarter Pound version? I once had the quarter pound single coil version in the bridge position of my 4001 briefly, and it was a good solid- sounding pickup.

Chris also had a 21 fret 4001. What's become of it?

Check out "The Messenger" on the Yes CD The Ladder for a nice example of the Mouradian tone.

Wasn't there an earlier thread about Squire's basses where someone said a friend of his now owns the 21-fretter and the white 8-string?

Only the 8-string, which Chris hated, was sold, and was last reported to be owned by Seth Goldfarb.

The 21-fretter is still in Chris' possession, barring a temporary loss of sanity and reason on his part. I cannot imagine him ever selling that one, any more than the would sell the RM.

To my knowlege, Chris's 4008 was broken at the headstock and has never been repaired. It is indeed in the posession of Vince Gallo. He couldn't have hated it too bad as the Rainey 8 is practiacally a copy of it using different wood. His Tobias basses had the 1st string tuned to A. Although the production Electra MPC bass did use the Electra RIC copy tailpiece/bridge assemblies, Squire apparently has a prototype with a Leo Quan BadAss bridge, Grover Titan tuners and completely different controls for the two interchangeable MPC modules. His MPC also has 21 frets and more rounded upper and lower bouts. His triple neck bass was not a Wall. Rick Wakeman had it custom built for the bassist in his band, The English Rock Ensemble(I saw them once with the bass, which explains the deja vu I felt when I saw Squire with it in '77). It ended up in Rick's garage and was later rescued by Rick and given to Chris.

Somewhere I have an interview excerpt where he comments how much better he likes its replacement. I will try to find and post it.
