Black Strings on Laredo

Post by markbass99 »

I tried to like the black B strings that DR makes, I even tried a .130 after rejecting a .125 for being too floppy. The .130 felt tighter but just didn't have the tone that a .128 LaBella HRS has, so before I took the strings off I took some more pics(black is really hard to photograph). The four string set of blacks(.45-.105) did have good tone, a little less highs because of the coating, lots of growl and overall the tone was pretty good. Mr. Crisman you have mail.

Mark, that is a beautiful bass and reminds me very much of a 4 string Laredo I had with chrome surrounds that I sold to a nice guy in Florida.

Now that's very tempting to do on my new Nos '93 laredo!! They all look great and very moody. Have any of you guys changed your electronics in your laredo's i.e. the pots as Jeff does but leaving the stock pickup switch or are they all stock?

I haven't modded mine yet but I've had a set of dual concentric pots on the shelf for a few months that are going in eventually (as soon as I get a break from house and car projects).

Did I see it right? Does it have Hipshot Lightweight tuners? Really a stunning bass, and the black strings look good!
Beside owning 14 guitars and basses and my own homestudio, what do I want more?

I think I kinda turned Mark onto those Ultralite tuners. I have them on a bunch of my basses. Image
