I find running about 80 PSI into my rig fattens things up a bit - I use this.

Isn't that a bit noisy in the quieter passages?

Well it took most of the day, but there's my first chuckle.

Well then, glad to help! As our other John says, "I'll be here all week."

I use a Demeter in front of my Markbass/Sansamp RBI rig and it sounds great, especially with my 4004's.

Looks like I'm going to go for the DBX 160a. The user reviews on it are great.

Hooked it up last night before band practice. It's interesting to say the least. I don't hear much difference except that the few dead spots on my fretboard seem to have disappeared. My guitarist can tell and he said it'll make a difference when we play live.

Sounds like it's doing what it's supposed to do.

I'm also interested to see if anyone is using the Aphex Punch Factory Optical Compressor.

I use my APF mostly for recording. It is nice and transparent sounding, perfect for getting a nice balance in the mix.

I can now hear how even the sound is with the compressor. It does have to make me work on some playing dynamics a bit now though...and that's a good thing.
