HB-1 in 320?

Post by zacstanley »

I'm finding I would like a bit more bite out of my 320 - anybody ever try using an hb-1 humbucker in their's? Are they at all similar to the hb-1's in guild guitars?

thanks,
zac

The HB1 is nothing like any other manufacturer's humbuckers from what I can see, and they mount into the front, but adjust from the back, so in order to put it into your 320, you would have to majorly devalue your guitar and put a hole in it for the pickup and two holes going out the back for the adjustment screws. Not only that, but you would have to find a HB1 pickup as they are not made any more. I got the last two that RIC put up on ebay and was very glad about that because I had never seen one for sale before. I wouldn't recommend it. I would instead source a guitar that came with those pickups originally, like the 200 series for example.

Greg, you are confusing the HB-1 with the HB-2.

Yes, the HB-1 is just a standard humbucker like on the 650 models.

Peter has one in the neck position of a 350 or 325 as does the SH model.

Peter's is in his 350 IIRC, and the HB-1 is in the bridge position of the Hoffs.

I have an HB-1 in the bridge position of one of my 350v63s. It does ad a little bit of grunt but don't expect heaps of growl..... it's not that sort of pup!

Geez, Aitch, that is gorgeous. I've seen you post pics of it before and each time I see it I break another tooth as my jaw drops to the floor. Totally jealous here.

I understand, appreciate and respect RIC's stand on Colors of the Year, but Monty Brown is one I really wish they'd reconsider bringing back.
