Battle of the Versions

Post by royclough »

Thought we would try this too for a bit of fun, will not being strictly kept to instros and I learnt from WDR needs to be a reasonable amount.

So 4 versions here of a classic, this give me your 1 2 3 4 either here or to [email protected] if enough interest may make it a weekly feature.

If you can't unzip files let me know I can send a small free utility

#1: version 4. original slide version, right? Still the best.

#2: version 3. a close second, very nice interpretive version, and keeps the dreamy feeling.

#3: version 1. a little thin, guitar not prominent enough.

#4: version 2. too fast, doesn't have that dreamy effect.

Roy, 3,4,2,1.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Roy,

4, 3, 1 and 2. Hmmm. Kent and I agree on this order. LOL

#4 is Santo and Johnny, the original.
#3 (guess) The Shadows?
#2 sounds exactly like The Ventures, (probably have it but too late to play it)
#1. no idea, very primitive, but I like it

I liked all of them, can't pick an order, although I would have to put #4 as my favorite.

I have played with a guitar player off and on who is about 60 now who opened with his band for them in 1960-61. Said they were so shy that they (Santo and Johnny) asked the promoter to ask that the audience back away from them or something like that, one of the was turned away from the crowd also. He is prone to exaggerate however I have heard this story many times.
