There is a full page RIC ad in this month's Guitar World.

Just to clarify, the only reason I subscribed to GW was because my daughter was selling subscriptions to raise money for charity.

The rythm guitarist in a metal band I was with in the early 90s used a Ric. Fireglo. It looked out of place but he managed to make it work until his custom shop strat arrived.

This begs the question - why would RIC advertise in such a magazine?

Or are they coming up with a "Goth" line we haven't heard about yet?

Don't mind me though - I gave up on all guitar magazines 20+ years ago...

Geez, I remember a thread from maybe a year or so ago complaining about the lack of RIC ads.

Why wouldn't they advertise in what's probably the best-selling guitar magazine? Not everyone that reads that magazine worships Steve Vai and plays a 7 string Ibanez.

Begs the question:

What guitar magazine would be best for the RIC print marketing campaign?

Seeing as there's none which fit the specific demographic--perhaps because said demographic is tough to nail down, I suppose I'd go with the one with the most circulation, too.

The ad is pure, traditional CLASS; no gimmicks, no neon, no black-leather-clad biker chix. Just raised the whole intelligence level of this one issue.

It's always good business to assume your audience can read, too...

May I chime in on this one? Some of you might remember (though twas a while ago) that I love my metal. Not so much heavy metal like Black Sabbath etc, but extreme metal like Emperor, Nile, Chothonic etc. I also play metal as best I can on my 620/12. Unusual, yeah but it works! The extra strings help beef the sound out and even though it could probably do so much better with humbuckers running through a marshall stack (as it stands, it's hi-gains running through a Fender Princeton 650) but it still sounds pretty awesome with a little volume. It didn't occur to me what kind of people read this mag until I stumbles upon Herman Li's myspace. Herman Li being the better guitar player from DragonForce, but I reckon that more metal bands should start turning to Ric guitars to make them more appealing to kids and people more my age (18). I already love the fact I'm different in the genre I'm in though, so I'm not entirely sure I'd want people to steal my thunder or whether I can pride myself in the fact I more than likely was the first person to play extreme metal on a Rickenbacker uitar as more and more bands learn to be different... Or perhaps they'll just stick to Jacksons, Ibanezs etc.
