A little diddy, 'bout Rick and Ghia

Post by bassduke49 »

I happened upon a fellow (a Brit, actually) who had parked a well-restored Volkswagen Karmann Ghia at a dog park that I frequently drive by. "My god, it's 'Sea Green'!" I exclaimed. I parked and went looking for the fellow, and asked if we could get together so that I could photograph my Sea Green 4003 next to the car. So we did today. Almost exactly the same shade. Enjoy!

Great pix Paul...

I love the KG's, they are so cool, especially in those statement colours...and the bass is quite wonderful too!

Rest gently on both sets of those beautifully contoured wings now...

Wait'll Wood sees this thread...

My hemorrhage aside, those are some amazing pics Paul! I really must get off my arse and take a pic of my 4003DCM and a very similarly painted Miata.

Hmm. Sounds like a good subject for a new thread in "General" (see same).

No, I didn't buy the car.

Paul W., I'll send you high-res for next year's calendar!

Cool pic, Paul!

A neighbor of my has a Dodge truck in that color. I think of the Sea Green Ricks, every time I see it.

Karmann Ghia... Love it, love it, love it. Now that the Z's been gone for a while, I'm itching for a new 4-wheeled toy... always wondered what might happen if you stuck a 911 engine back there...

Thanks Mr. Boyer, for getting the wheels turning... Image

Remember the great VW TV ads from the late '60s, early '70s? The Ghia ad showed the car moving along the highway, with the voiceover exuding about its great Italian styling and its affordability. They show the car approaching one of those huge paper banners stretched across the road. Switch cameras to the other side of the banner. You hear the car approaching and then a ripple in the banner appears. You hear the car backing up and see the car trying again to get through the banner. Voiceover continues: "But it's not very powerful."

Those stand as some of the best car ads ever.
