Signing In With Firefox

Post by admin »

Would those who use firefox with the auto login please describe the configuration here so that others can login without entering a username and password each time. It would be a great benefit to them and to myself.

Gosh Peter, I use Firefox. My computer remembers my password. Is there something under the Tools -->Options folder? I guess maybe I'm not much help.

Go to the menus at the top - Tools - Options - Security tab - check the box "Remember passwords for sites".

If it is already checked but not auto-filling login info, at some time they did not click to save the password when asked as they signed in at some time. In that case, go to the same tab as above and click "Exceptions" and delete the entry for www.rickresource.com. Then it should work. Did for Melibee.

I have Firefox set up to remember passwords for some sites (including this one), as John advised. I also have it save the cookies from this site (I normally have Firefox automatically block cookies, then "whitelist", or explicitly specify, which sites to accept cookies from).

The result is that whenever I visit this site, I'm already logged in. It's not even a matter of submitting a form with auto-filled login credentials.

I have FF setup per the above, and still have to login... the form is already filled out, but it's a PITA.
Robert, I have both the parent and child URLs (rickresource & forum.rickresource) set to accept all cookies; but mine still makes me login.
I'm on the latest build of FF too.
Strange?

I'm on Firefox too,and it just remembers the passwords.

I have Firefox remember all cookies from rickresource, meaning session and persistent cookies. The status in the whitelist is "Allow" as opposed to "Allow for session". BTW, this is Firefox on Windows.

I looked at the cookies, and there is a persistent cookie with my username in plaintext, and one with my password not in plain text. I believe this is how I manage to always be logged in (I never click log out for this site).

I get the same always-logged in behavior with Safari at home.

I notice whenever I post, the form has my login credentials pre-filled, so that is getting submitted with my posts. But browsing the site, I'm auto-logged in.

I just tried it now with Firefox on Mac OS X and I can get the same behavior as FF on Windows.

At first, my cookies setting (Preferences|Privacy) was to keep cookies until I closed the browser. Once I changed that to keep until they expire, I logged in, viewed the forums, quit Firefox (really quit, no longer in memory), restarted Firefox, went to rickresource, and I'm automatically logged in. If you need more troubleshooting or help, see my profile for address.
