So the FOOW Re-Issue should be any day now. Is this release date only for the UK?

What's the old saying?

"You can pick your friends, and you can pick your nose,
but you can't pick your friend's nose."

Maybe untrue... LOL!

Although the www.chrissquire.com site still says, as of 15 July 2007, that the release will be soon and to keep checking, I noticed that his MySpace page (not maintained by Chris) now says it was released yesterday, 23 July 2007. Still says to write Chris regarding autographed copies.

However, the Amazon site in the UK has the following link saying the CD+DVD will not be released (at just £9.99)until 06 August 2007:

www.amazon.co.uk/FOOW

And the US version of Amazon.com says it will not be available until 15 August 2007 (at just $15.98) :

www.amazon.com/FOOW

Both sites are of course taking pre-orders Image

So I wrote Chris just now to enquire further for update and detail. It is quite early in the morning in the UK, so I don't expect to get a reply until tomorrow, but I hope he has time to write back fairly soon and I shall post as soon as he can tell us more! Image

Well, I got an answer back from Chris Squire this morning Image

Chris wrote, in addition to other things: "I have been incredibly busy lately. l will be taking time out later tonight to update things and go through my email."

Poor guy, can you imagine all the hundreds of loose ends involved in bringing a CD product to distribution, including the contracts and schedules for timely delivery of quantities of CD product wrapped and labeled? Just the volume commitment by the pressing and fulfillment houses alone to deliver on-time and in-quantity to the distributors, and handling and managing the schedule slips and delays alone, would be more than a full-time job to keep track of! Image

Yippee for Chris, it is almost done Image

The Fish Out of Water Bonus CD/DVD will now be released on Aug. 6th, as the UK Amazon site indicated.

Chris had been working on improving the sound quality for the promo video on the DVD, and it was this that had taken some extra time.

The sound problem Chris was having with THE FISH OUT OF WATER film had to do with converting NTSC to PAL format. The conversion, which was done off a VHS tape became out of sync between sound and image. Chris told me it was fixed and is now perfect. The story of how the film was found goes like this. I used YES music for my film BUFFALO 66 but had only met with Jon Anderson from the band regarding the license. I wanted so much to meet Chris Squire since I was 8 or 9 years old but only met Jon. One day Chris Squire calls me to say he liked my film. It was an odd call, as I did not believe it was him but rather thought it was one of my friends who knew how nuts I was for Chris and were fooling with me. When I finally understood it really was Chris I was shocked. We spoke a bit and it turned out Chris lived almost directly across the street from me in LA. He came right over for a visit. In any case, I had seen a clip of FISH OUT OF WATER on Don Kirshner’s ROCK CONCERT show. It had been #1 on my list of things to own one day. The first thing I asked Chris when we met was to help me get a copy. That was 1998. A year later Chris called me from London and said there was a film print of the FISH OUT OF WATER film at the London film library. Somehow he got it for me. BUFFALO 66 did ok at the box office but I was only paid $10,000 to make the film. In 1999 I was very much still struggling with money. Still, when I got the print of FISH OUT OF WATER I spent $12,000 on my credit card to do a pristine transfer to digital master. The footage was carefully color timed and restored, as the print was a tiny bit ruff. I made only two VHS copies for home view but have never let them out of my sight. Last year I sold my house and put everything I own in storage while I am building a new home. While I was out of LA living in a hotel, Chris called me to ask for the digital master of the film. I explained it would be very tuff to get it to him as I was out of town for three more months and it was very deeply buried in my 40’x 40’ storage room, which is packed full. I told him I had a better chance finding a VHS copy as I had placed that in a spot I remembered. I could send someone to my storage to retrieve it. I did so and it was found. The film that will be released was transferred from that VHS copy.

Cool! Hey Vince, is there a chance in the future, (post New House), that another DVD will be released from the film print or from your digital master at even higher resolution? HD-DVD perhaps...

From experience, 1080p-60 is really nice on a 12 foot Stewart Filmscreen with a couple high-end three-gun Barco 909s Image
