Commemorating Elvis

On August 16th it's 30 years since Elvis passed away. Here's a preliminary mix of one song from the forthcoming album with the norwegian artist Stephen Ackles. Yours truly on bass. Sorry but no Rickenbacker this time.

When they first hit the Southern circuit, they were billed as the Hillbilly Cat and the Blue Moon Boys.

How come Elvis never became a better guitar player than just the cowboy-chord strummer he was. I guess the answer is that he never had to.

Same reason Andre Segovia never developed much of a singing voice...or pelvic moves, for that matter...

So far, my favorite thing about the Elvis commemoration has been the special edition Reese's Peanut Butter Cups with banana cream in them.

I was being facetious. I just think it's funny how much STUFF there is out there now. I walk through Kroger's and there's candy in a huge Reese's display along with Pez dispensers. It's just funny.

I love the Beatles, esoteric modern rock groups, and weedy alternative bands -but sometimes Elvis is what I need to hear. That voice -along with his bright superjumbo strumming and Scotty Moore's BRILLIANT playing changed, well, everything.
