I had a few 1966 Oldsmobile Toronados!

It was my FIRST car and is still my favorite!

You have good taste my man, GOOD TASTE!

You did own a few Olds?! In what finishes? Some were ultra-cool-looking.

My first 66 Toronado was GOLD, I don't remember the exact name of the colors. My second 66 Toronado was Maroon.

I had a few more over the years, all RED or GOLD and one BLACK. I ALMOST had an ocean mist green, but it didn't work out.

I also had a 1968 and a 1969 Toronado as well.

If I ever find another good deal on a minty one, I'll probably grab it. I sure do miss those cars!

MANY a youthful "high water" mark was made in my first two Toronado's, thankfully, they have a TOTALLY FLAT FLOOR! Image

The Toronado had an amazing transaxle/tranny built right under the motor, back when front wheel drive was "musclecar" strong. A 1966 through 1969 rat-block (bored-out mouse block even) V8 wrecked (rear-ended) Toronado (or the two sister cars that GM made back then with different nameplates) was perfect for use in dropping the entire powerplant assembly into the back of a Porsche 911 and turning it into a rear-heavy straight-line stoplight dragster back in the mid-70s. Targa body was best, with the removable Lexan rear window.

i guess i could take a photo of my 86 silverglo 4003 next to my silver HHR...but it wouldn't be so cool...especially after peter levett and his wife chastised me for not driving a black car. haha

My 4003 told me it doesn't want to be photographed together with my car. Basses have feelings too, you know....

Back to what started this thread, the KG - I hadn't thought of them in years, then this thread, then Friday after supper the missus and I stop for ice cream at a local emporium, and what's on the wall but an ad for a 1972 original green Karmann Ghia! Pricey at $5600 but, when it rains it pours!

Although the Toro did have two other GM cars that shared the E body platform, only the Eldorado was FWD. The Riviera was RWD in those years. Toros came with the front wheel drive version of the TH400 trans known as the TH425. They never had "rat" or "mouse" motors in them as this is a term generally applied to Chevrolet engines. They came exclusively with the Olds 425 inch motor which was also the only Olds with a steel crank.

That's the one, Dane! Man, you know your stuff about that car! It was a 425 cube engine, nice and strong, attached to a version of a THM400 - so it makes sense that they called them a THM425 to set it apart. I saw two put into RWD 911s between 1975 and 1977, one of which I got to drive around for a weekend. Not good at cornering of course, but wow was it deadly in straight-line acceleration Image

I would give a lot to have one of those powerplants sitting on a pallet today in the garage.....

My uncle's Eldorado was so cool too, with the flat floorboards where we usually saw the tranny hump and driveshaft tunnel in lesser cars Image

Ok,

I'm going to hunt around for some old pictures of my babies and scan them in.

The "Standard" version had 385 HP and the "Deluxe" had 400 HP. I still have some parts up in my attic. I'm not giving up hope, I'd love another.

The 360 body shape always reminded me of the classic and rare 1937 Cord for some reason.

Unfortunately, I don't have one to pose my 360 with.

I had a 72 Toronado with a 455, used to smoke up the front tires, as fast the speedo went up the gas gauge went down, haha! The early ones like tony had were much prettier, I always loved the 60's Toronados. I don't like FWD though.
I have a 1994 Buick Roadmaster RWD right now with a LT-1 in it, the thing flies for a big brute, will smoke up the rear tires and throw you back in the seat, they were real sleepers, got a 95 Estate Wagon also with the same motor, hotrod station wagon. That are not that bad on gas either believe it or not, I get 22-23 mpg on the highway with AC on, going 75-80.
The sedan is very similar to midnight blue, is close to my 78 azureglo 4001.
