never been able to figure out what to do with a low b

LOL! Me too!!!!

The work done on that bass is fantastic! Image I remember it for the phantom switch (it didn't do anything, right?)...

Personally I think the headstock would have looked better all black, but that's just my preference.

Do you play that thing with a pick or your fingers?

Thin pick I presume? Seems that it'd not be the massive felt picks I use when I rarely use a pick.

Very nice grain on the fretboard.

Very nice! Can you show a closeup of the bridge/tailpiece? Or, are there 6 bridges on it?

Just to be clear, is it indeed strung for EADGBe, like a Bass VI?

Yer killin' me. I want a Ric Bass VI SO BAD...although I'd prefer something 330-shaped. 'Cause I'm silly like that.

What about the ease of converting a 480 or 481? Would the neck scaling work? It would also take a little routing to change to a 4000 style tailpiece.

Now that's a guitar player's bass. Love it.

Kudos to Dale and Roy.

The bass is tuned e-e just like a Fender bass six. I'll try to get a photo of the bridge tailpiece before the weekend. It's just the stock tailpiece with the string openings modded two extra string holes and the fingers that cover the mute between the bass strings cut out. I found a guitar bridge that fit in the stock bridge opening with almost no mods and so far it works great, but I will say I'm a bit scared of the neck because it's had to be adjusted five times since the weekend because it has not had any string for a year now it's got six. I'm just letting it do what it wants for about a week then I'll adjust it again.

Interesting about the bridge from a guitar fitting - that's what I was really wondering about. Nice solution. As for the neck, don't let it pull up too much without rods being adjusted.

Roy, you might try tuning it down a step (DGCFAD), this way you'll reduce string pull, keep the guitar intervals, and I'm sure it will sound awesome. And if you need EADGBE tuning, just use a capo at the 2nd fret.

Ya know Ilan, the detuning/capo solution is one that I never considered even for a 4 string that would help the 4001/roundwound/truss rod dilema.
No matter where you go - there you are.
