Vancouver Manouver....

Guys,

My employers are about to transfer me over from London to Vancouver for a 6 month stint. It's all very exciting as I've heard really great things about the city and area.

However, I need some knowledge of the local guitar shop-type facilities! Are they any good? Are Rickenbackers readily available? How much would, say a 330 go for?

One reason I ask is that I may well take NONE of my existing guitar collection over with me. It's only 6 months, I'd never decide which one(s) to take, I'm worried about transporting more than one and hey, it gives me the excuse to buy myself a new one when I get there!

Any of you wonderful people a groover from Vancouver...?

The local Rickenbacker dealer is Long and McQuade. They have a website,but their stock situation is generally not all that great however. http://www.long-mcquade.com/index.php?site=1&tmp=2

They should have a 330 available. You'll have to write them and ask them for a price. I lived in the suburbs of Vancouver for many years. It's a great city. I moved to Canada from Southampton in 1965. I love BC. It's the best place on earth IMO.

You'll find that there are many more Ric's in the U.K. than in Canada, unfortunately. However, the U.S. isn't far away . . .

Just been to the larger Long & McQuade on Arbutus. They had two 330/6s (Both MG), 2 620/12s (JG and FG) and a 350V63/6 in JG.

One of those 330s felt fantastic to play. and the price tag had a number on it that was less than the £ number would have been in London! Man we get ripped off in the UK...

I used to work for Ward Music in Vancouver during the early-mid 90's when we were a RIC dealer (and before Ward was bought out by Long and McQuade). I wasn't into Rickenbackers at the time so it's quite painful to think back to all the Limited Edition instruments that came through our stores (which of course I never bought). I haven't been there for years but there were a few music shops of various sizes in the West End along Granville.
