Ebay auction, what's the deal here?

Post by big_g »

I'm no expert in telling a fake from the real thing, but the fact that the supposed 4001 is in a Univox hard-shell case, and we know that Univox made a few Ric lawsuit basses. Then take the, "I just looked up this model on the web and I have no idea where to look up the serial number data.", several pictures, none of them that close, certainly none of the output jack side of the body at all.

Sure, it's got a Ric TRC, but so do quite a few fakes. I can say again, it could be real, but is it?

I emailed the seller and asked him for the serial number and told him where to find it. I'll let you know if I hear from him.

I am pretty sure it is a univox ... a good ric copy maybe worth about $400

What is the serial number?
Does it have a serial number?
How many truss rods? 1? 2?
The location of the strap button is wrong.
The paint on the back of the neck looks wrong.
The wood on the fretboard looks too dark.

Again, the brotherhood of the RIC seems to have made Ebay just a tiny bit safer, it's not much I know, but everyone here is quite the activist. Many thanks again guys, proud to see so many spring into action.

It was a fake all the way, and one of the better ones that has neck-thru construction.
