Blast From The Past 6
Ok here's another we'll see how this goes.
Again could be solo, duo or group.
We discussed Graham Gouldman recently and he wrote this which The Yardbirds had a big hit with on both sides of Atlantic.
This version is by an act that had loads of hits in UK and US in 60's.
Who Is it , correct name as on label.

Who ever it is, I like it better than the Yardbird's version.
..... ya, I got it although Roy's "correct name as on label" gives me pause. Could it be that THAT direction is what makes this one harder than it seems?

The band only had one name, was never directly named for the singer. I thought this one was the easiest one so far. For the Everly Brother one I at first answered Don Everly as he was the singer on that one but it was recorded under The Everly Brothers name. Was like answering Paul McCartney instead of The Beatles for Yesterday

It's a pretty good version but not quite as good as the Yardbirds original as far as I am concerned.
Apparently this was the song that caused Eric Clapton to leave The Yardbirds. I believe his comment was that he felt they were going "too commercial".

It's hard to discuss the "Act" before the end of the week without giving away too many hints.
Count me in the Yardbirds camp, although this song doesn't really do the Yardbirds justice. Probably their biggest hit, but also one of their least representative tracks. Yes, Clapton made a lot of noise when this song came out about how they were no longer a blue-based band, but I also have heard that he hated trying to recreate the harpsichord sound live with a 12-string.
The track by the mystery act isn't bad at all, but for my money it misses all the edgy, raved-up energy of the Yardbirds. It's more of a love letter than an adrenaline-infused, desperate plea.

Bit like the sketch where the guy is asked a question and says "can you give us a clue" the question master says "what sort of clue would you like"
"can you give us the answer" comes the retort.
So answer of course Herman's Hermits and nearly everyone who entered got it.
No entry for BOTV though Kent.
