Edwyn Collins with a Lightshow

Post by godber »

I was looking on the Edwyn Collins website forum and noticed that he said he had a Rickenbacker. A quick google later and here he is with a Lightshow!
Any one else a fan of him or his previous band, Orange Juice?

I LOVED Orange Juice- in fact, I spun Ostrich Graveyard earlier this week. Some great tracks in their career. One of my personal favourites is the Texas Fever EP, and especially the single 'What Presence', which has a bass line that rates as one of the coolest from the '80s IMHO. It makes sense that a man who wrote 'I wore my fringe like Roger McGuinn' would have a cool Rick!

Collins is great! He's apparently still not completely whole following a cerebral hemorrhage in 2005. But he's back making music now:

"What Presence?!" is also a fave of mine, also "If Ever You're Ready" (B-side to the first solo single - "Don't Shilly Shally") which is achingly beautiful.

I don't think that he can use his right hand much yet, but is progressing and hopeful - and he can still sing. I think that most of the stuff for the new album was recorded before the illness. It's stunning how people can recover from such appalling disasters.

Here's the story from the Scottish Press.

I had no idea about his illness. I really hope he recovers.

I think that's a Gibson ES330 Noel. Same spec as an Epiphone Casino.

It's from the originators name - Adolf "Adi" Dassler, so I'll plump for Ah-dee-das. I read about it in a book about Liverpool casuals who robbed them from all over Europe - a, day do doh don't day.

Orange Juice were a great band, I met Edwin at a gig he played at Reading Uni, he was a real gent (albeit a very drunken one)
