Another Great Aussie Band...Icecream Hands

Post by rick_ovic »

The Icecream Hands are a Melbourne-based power- pop band, who have released a number of albums over the past ten years. The lastest release is "The Good China"

I'm amazed that they haven't had much greater commercial success. Four part harmonies live and infectious melody lines.

The bass player, Doug Lee Robinson, also uses a 4003S JG bass. That makes them even cooler. Image

Here's a short doco on the making of their latest album. You'll get a sense of their Aussie humour, too.

Darren: I wonder where they got their name from? There's a little known song on a Robyn Hitchcock album 'I Often Dream Of Trains' from 1984 that has a line that says, "And you, yeah you, with your ice cream hands". I think the song title is "The Flavour Of Night". Robyn's first band, The Soft Boys, took its name from two of William Burroughs' book titles, 'The Soft Machine' and 'The Wild Boys'.

Randy, I do believe that the origin of the band's name came from a rather self-gratifying past-time. Nudge nudge, wink wink, say no more! Image
