460 MG

Got my first vintage Rickenbacker yesterday, a beautiful 460 from November 1964:

It's amazingly light, and the neck plays oh-so-smoothly. The fun part was heading down to Winchester after work to meet up with fellow forumites John S. and David M. for dinner, beer, and a nice little 3-Rick jam session. They're both incredible musicians and excellent hosts, and it was yet another testament to the coolness of this forum and its capacity to bring together many far-flung members of the Rickenbacker community.

Congratulations, Chris. That's a very tasty guitar you have there, well done!

You don't see that many 460 models around - there always seems to be plenty of 450s. Yours looks to be in great condition. More pictures, please!

I know exactly how you feel about meeting up with Rickenbacker buddies.

Thanks guys! Yeah, overall I'd say it's in pretty good shape - some changed machine heads, a newer nut, and a couple de-silvered control knobs, but otherwise a really nice, great playing guitar. Here are some more photos:

It really is a great guitar. Very near in production to the first batch of 450/12s ever made, two of which are owned by Jwilli and Glenn Wall.

A cool feature of Chris's 460 is that the knobs are the earliest type of chrome-top knob with no writing on the metal insert, and dashes on the top...they're the same as on my '64 360/12, made a couple of weeks after this 460.

Chris, anytime you wanna make the long 45-minute trip down here, we'll be ready for you, LOL

The only thing I lifted that night was a glass of Maker's Mark.
