Harrison fling with Clapton Ex?

Post by dudley07726 »

from a NY daily newspaper

LONDON - Eric Clapton's former girlfriend says she and George Harrison had a fling three months after Conor, her 4-year-old son with Clapton, fell to his death from a Manhattan high-rise apartment.

Lory del Santo, a 46-year-old ex-model, says the three-day affair in Hiroshima, Japan, in 1991 was "sweet revenge" for both of them.

Ex-Beatle Harrison was paying back Clapton for stealing his wife, Pattie Boyd, while Del Santo felt frozen out by Clapton after Conor's death in March 1991.

A preview of Del Santo's television interview with journalist Daphne Barak appeared in The Mail on Sunday yesterday along with an excerpt from Boyd's new book, "Wonderful Today," in which she reveals how Clapton's drinking and womanizing destroyed their marriage.

"Life was one big party fueled by vast amounts of alcohol," writes Boyd - who left Harrison in 1974 after Clapton wrote the song "Layla" for her.

There were also good moments - like the night Boyd asked him if she looked all right and he responded by playing the song "Wonderful Tonight" that he had written about her.

Maybe it happened during Clapton's set on that tour with George. Only kidding.

That sounds really far-fetched to me. And if it were true, she's a fool to admit it.

"Sweet revenge" happens every day somewhere in the world. Wives are "stolen" by best friends every day. That it happened to be Harrison and Clapton involved is the only thing that makes this "newsworthy." No one should be paid to write this kind of ****, even if it's true.

Think about it. Our son died 12 weeks ago, and ever since then you've frozen me out, so I'm going to sleep with George Harrison, who is more than willing to get back at his arch enemy...and that will be "sweet" revenge.

???

No way.

"Sweet Revenge" is not a particularly positive human trait, nor does it accomplish much.

But lust is a very human trait. Just because it's George Harrison it couldn't be true? That is harder for me to believe. I don't know if she's truthful or not, but I'm not going to judge her or George based on how I feel about The Beatles.

I feel somewhat comfortable judging someone who calls having an affair "sweet revenge" for her husband's failure to relate to her properly soon after the tragic, preventable death of their four-year-old. How quickly can we pull ourselves back together after something like that? That's unanswerable.

I could see referring to it as a stupid, desperate act, or a weird moment...but "sweet revenge" is a bizarre cruelty only 3 months after that horrific loss. But I really don't see a non-repulsive reason to go public with this information at all, ever. Imagine how Olivia Harrison views the tone of this revelation.

I'm not as judgmental about the possible fling--I am saying it's a ****** thing to blurt out to the world in an interview, and the way she characterizes it makes it sound like a really neat thing to do. How wonderful for her. How "sweet" for George and her to "get back" at that awful Eric.

Did anyone here know George?
If so... you'd know it was hogwash! He's simply not that kind of person.

"Sweet revenge" sounds a lot like something a writer would come up with, not something I'd say if I was talking to a pal about my having slept with my friend's wife. Surely we know that all these celebrity tell-alls, with rare exception, are done by ghostwriters. The best thing we can do is ignore her. None of our business, really.

Wasn't it widely reported that he wanted to swap wives with John Lennon in the 60's? I believe that has been reported several times. I'm not saying it's true...I don't know. I just think we shouldn't make him out to be a saint. He was human like all of us. Whether he did or didn't isn't going to change my feelings or impression of the guy. I love him regardless.

Brian, I agree with what you say about George. After all, who knows? Most informed accounts of his later life, however, depict a very solid moral character and an excellent marriage to Olivia. So my BS Detector votes 99% for slander, 1% possibility of truth.

(As far as the wife-swapping thing, the 60's were kind of naive and stupid that way---I mean, how else would you account for a desire to swap Patti Boyd for Cynthia Powell or Yoko Ono? George must have sucked at Monopoly...)

But the book is by Patti Boyd, the interview was with Lory del Santo...so no ghostwriting there, just a slimeball riding on the coattails of her ex's ex. Gross!
