Removing 1973 4001 truss rods

Post by crdeppe »

I need to perform some of the fixes talked about here on my truss rods, such as making a new block and shortening them to get at fresh metal. What I can't figure out is how to remove them without damaging something. Can someone explain this? (And should I keep the slight slant at the ends of the non-threaded rod?)

Thanks to Jeffrey I have removed the truss rods without any damage. I'm going to take pictures during the stages, and I'll start another thread for this to see if anyone is interested, as this seems to be a common problem for 4001 owners.
