Toasters Now In My 12 string

Post by drumbob »

I had toasters finally installed on my 330-12 and am amazed at the difference. The "jangle factor" is so much more pronounced than before. I'm taking it out tonight for a band rehearsal, so it'll be plugged into the compressor for the real test. I'll report back later.

It almost makes me wonder why Rickenbacker even bothers to use HiGains on the 12-strings.

J-Dog did a nice side by side comparison recording of various combinations a while back.
Quite interesting.
I think the thread was in the rampant recording section.

I know the toasters have less output than the HG's, but that's fine. It sounded really nice at rehearsal tonight, even though I'm not crazy about the Boss compressor I bought recently. I think I should just break down and buy the Janglebox like I planned.

I think the toasters are more jingly than jangly.

I've been well-pleased with toasters in my 360/12. I never use compression at all... Straight into the amp with a little bit of gain (not too much) and the thing sings and chimes...

I had a 360/12 w/ Hi-Gains but sold it long ago so no comparisons... Wish I still had it. MapleGlo with white... Like TP's.

Now, Hi-Gains in my 480... Love it.

My 370/12 RM of course has toasters, but my 360/12 has the hi-gains, and I like the sound of both. That being said, the 360 does benefit a bit more from the compression I get with a JangleBox for a more "vintage" sound.

I just never have fiddled with compression that much, in fact, never at all. But I love the JangleBox sound clips...

Still, I like it straight in with a decent cable... Some people claim that pedals/effects dilute your signal... Of course, some people can hear the grass grow...

Anyway, the point of all is this is why I was asking in my other posts about set ups and strings and things.

Take it easy,

JKC

PS... It really is my birthday.

If it really is your birthday Jim, have a great, jangly one!

I tried to find that post and couldn't. Anybody have better luck?

I downloaded that very nice J-Dog 12 string comparison mp3 many months ago and still have it on my hard drive. I will e-mail it to you, if your posted Yahoo mail address will accept large files -- if not, let me know another e-mail address of yours to use.

I would say most recordings are going to be with toasters. If you have a 12 and don't have them your missing the real Ric sound.
Got to start with one make it a 360/12.

I listened to the audio file that Richard sent to me. And I could certainly detect a difference between the 3 guitars. But the difference was not as great as I thought it might be. I may just leave the hi-gains on my guitar when it arrives. Or not...
