Genuine Ric on the bay?

Post by peter_sillery »

Hi. I'm not as familiar with older Rics as most of you. I came across this on e bay and I am just wondering is it genuine? Its not a bass but a 6-string.....

Any info would be much appreciated. Sorry if its been posted before.

Peter.

The guitar looks real enough to me, but there are warning flags flying here.

It is worth a lot more than the BIN price, certainly here in Europe!

Bank transfer only - dodgy. Could be the bargain of a lifetime or you may never see your money again!

Buy only if you are feeling brave/lucky.

Is the following true?

"Since 1949 the logo on the headstock will be “RICKENBACKER” as today, in the previous era the logo was “RICHENBACHER” with the H instead of the K, therefore the guitar can’t have been made after that year."

The guitar looks real enough with some things changed out, I think, such as the knobs. You do not see a lot of these so if you are comfortable, go for it. I would ask the seller for more pics that are different enough from the posted ones to ensure he actually has the guitar and this is not a bogus auction.

There appears to be a good amount of wear on the guitar, as one would expect from a 50+ year old instrument. I am a bit worried about the lowish buy it now price.
