Fave Rick 12 albums

Post by chrisb »

Hey all, here's a short list of some of my favorite albums featuring the Rick 12 string. I've purposely left off the chestnuts (Byrds etc) in favor of lesser known gems.
I'd love to hear some others as I'm always looking for new stuff and new ways to use these amazing guitars....

Here goes (in no particular order):
Echo & the Bunnymen "Ocean Rain" & "Heaven Up Here"
The Church "Heyday" & "The Blurred Crusade"
Primal Scream "Sonic Flower Groove"
Rockfour "Another Beginning" & "Memories of the Never Happened" (out Oct. 9)
The High Dials "A New Devotion"
Beachwood Sparks "Once We Were Trees"

These are all pretty heavy on the 12, featuring it on a good majority of the tracks. Of course there's lots of other stuff with a few tracks here & there (maybe we can get into that later).

Now it's your turn, let's hear some more!

Wow - I hadn't thought of the Bluetones since that album came out. What was that one song?

You know Mark from Rockfour posts here sometimes. Very cool band.

Somehow I missed the Bluetones-- tho I have seen the stuff floating around. I'll check it out.

Mark & I are actually good buddies--which leads me to a disclaimer: I co-produced "Memories of the Never Happened." I didn't play guitar on it though, so my recommendation still stands!

Also, I left one off: The Connells "Boylan Heights." Great record!!

The Church "Heyday" & "The Blurred Crusade"

Chris, you read my mind.

I would add The Plimsouls - Everywhere At Once.

For me, it's still the classic stuff by The Byrds, Petty, Searchers, Beatles, etc. There was a band that had an album out on Rainbow Quartz records a few years ago called The Rhinos that had had 12 string all over it. The Rockfour are a cool band too. I also have a vinyl EP from years ago by a duo called The Reverbs that's classic Rick 12 compressed jangle. That's why I bought it.
