New Info on Pete Best Sacking

I am with you on this one Larry. I have always felt that none of the Beatles showed much integrity when it came to explaining their actions. Regardless of who initiated this action, Pete was entitled to an explanation.

Thinking back to when I was that age and in bands it was ruthless always striving to take the band up a notch with a better player and axing another member with no conscious.

It doesn't surprise me at all with the Beatles apparent lack of integrity in this situation. Perhaps though as the years went by they were a bit embarrassed by their behavior and just never faced up to Pete again?

Speaking from experience, bands can be ruthless. It's a combination of ego, inexperience and youth. Sad to say that it doesn't get better with age in some cases. When I was 16, my entire band "quit me" rather than face up to the task of firing me to hire another bass player. Same thing happened to a few other bands I ran with in the '60s. The band "broke up" one day, reassembled the next with only one different player. Ah, youth.

I was popular, actually. My bandmates were chicken. That was the first and last time I was fired, even if I wasn't, from a band.

Dave, same thing happened to me in 1968 when I was 16. In May, I was the lead guitarist in a band. We did the summer vacation thing and lo and behold, in August they were back together with a new lead player. That wounded me for a long time.

Oh well... I had to admit (when I was, oh, about 40) that the new guy actually WAS better than me.... and anyway, they didn't become famous rock stars either....

I have been reverse fired also a few times. I have also been partially responsible for people getting fired from bands years ago and it usually backfired, band broke up etc.

I think that whether its done in an up-front open/honest way or the old "breakup and reform without him" way.... it still sucks bigtime and can cause long-term hard feelings and thats just all there is to it.

Once we kicked out a drummer in favor of a much more talented (and better attituded) guy... only to have the new guy quit the band after a couple of weeks. That sucked.
