Ditto that! The looks and sound of that bass are perfect!

I'll have to hunt down a "war weary" 4001 and have it given the treatment.

Apologies in advance for my ignorance, but did Dale or Paul do the work on the bass? I vaguely remember some of the description, but what color and era was the bass originally, meaning, was it originally a 60s 4001 with full width inlays and radius, or was it a later model that was retro'd? I think I heard one of the guys say it was originally another color. I dunno, the weekend was a whirlwind of Rickenfun.

Paul, the bass was originally a '72 4001 Mapleglo, with black spray painted body wings, custom red pickguard, P Bass pickups in the neck position, some other dodgy pickup in the bridge, and extra pots. Fortunately the checker binding was intact, the Grover tuners were still present and the structural condition was sound. It was worth saving.

Mike Dolan carried out the body restoration and refinish, while Dave helped locate period-correct parts. It currently sports a reissue toaster in the neck and a 4003 bridge pickup. Dave and I believe the combination of the "old wood" and new electrics contribute to the great sound this one has.

You know Darren, I have a '73 "four double O one" in Dale fortune's shop right now for restoration and it was going to be painted Ruby Red, but after seeing & playing your AG and ogling at it on stage Saturday night in SoCal I am seriously considering changing my choice of color!

Listening to the sound of that bass on the clip that John Allgaier posted, it not only looks purrty, but has a great sound. Another nice acquisition Darren, (again!!!!!)

I'm with Alisha on this to Steve - I don't think you'd be disappointed with AZG

Thanks for the 411 and the photos Darren! Yeah, go with the AG! I wish I'd ordered my AG WB with the checkered binding. It was an available option in `85, at least on the brochure that I looked at when ordering the guitar.
