Sorry Don, but a cardboard washtub would not work well. ;)

There was actually a blurb about this bass in Bass Player magazine a few issues back. It is "commercially " available, I believe. Image

I made basses out of a cardboard box, a piece of string and two pencils when I was a kid. I used to hold the box with my feet, tie the string around a pencil inside the box and also tie it to a pencil at the other end and put it next to my ear and play to the radio. It was like a washtub bass with no washtub.
