Roy Clough Appreciation Thread

Post by admin »

Roy: You have blasted from the past 10 times and have gone through five battles of the versions.

I want to say thank you for continuing to round out our musical experience and well done.

I have certainly appreciated this journey and thanks so much for Leeding the way.

Amen to that. I love to read these threads, and although they often play to a personal weak spot, it's an education!

Roy provides a terrific "rounding out" of the Rickenbacker experience with his knowledge and observations on musical topics.

This wants to be a "Roy Appreciation Thread".

All in favor?

Yep. So much of it is beyond me, so here I learn and relax. I do know a bit about American stuff; very narrowly. Mostly late '50s to late '60s. So I enjoy reading. Nothin' personal, Roy!

Thanks Paul. Good point. Topic titled changed.

I missed so much of the British Invasion that Roy has added to here.

Me too, Peter...I thought the "Invasion" comprised about fifteen bands total. (Well, major bands). Yet there's so much more to say about them, and so much there hasn't been said about their compatriot invaders. Roy, you are our "way into" the details, having witnessed much of it yourself...

True True ..True...kinda like the blues artists much more music out there then was just on the surface. Like many on this side of the pond, it took UK artists (Stones, Mayall, Korner..etc) to point me in the direction of our blues music...Thanks Roy!

Searchers amongst my teenage favourite music. Still fond of them, but earnestly a little puzzled they are considered THIS big! But I'm very excited about this forum, and will love to read it regularly, and also contribute!

As I said in another thread, I find the BOTVs and BFTPs both educational and fun. Sometimes I struggle with the BFTPs because I'm not a student of the many British bands of the 60s and I'm pleased that Roy has widened the scope to include the 'other side of the Atlantic'...... gives me more hope! Image

Thanks for continuing despite the apparent lack of interest, Roy. I'm sure there are many like Paul who lurk and listen but don't respond simply because they are baffled (like me!) and don't want to inundate you with '******** if I know' type emails. Image

Keep it up, Roy...... your efforts are greatly appreciated. In fact I have just created a 'Roy_Clough' folder for the downloads so they don't get lost amongst all the other stuff! Image

Roy since you are from "My Generation", "I'm Telling you Know" that "You're No Good" at accepting much deserved accolades however it's now "All Over The World" from Leeds to "Massachusetts" that Roy Clough has been "Searching" for people to "Shout" out their preferences each week because you are a "Dedicated Follower of Fashion" and face it there's no "Substitute" for your weekly quizzes.

So there's no use swimming "Against The Tide" give in and spend "Saturday in the Park" and have some "Afternoon Tea". Please hoist a cup for me as well. Oh and you can do that "All Day and All of the Night"

On a personal note, many thanks too Roy for being such a good friend.

I think I've told this to Roy in private, but this is usually this first section I open when I visit the forum.
I don't know half of them either but I will give off the wall guesses and also post something to the effect of huh?? just to let Roy know I've been here if I do. For example this week on BFTP 10 I first guessed Monty Python and then Richard Harris, haha!

I, too, open Clough's Classics first thing. I learn, participate when I can, and think it demonstrates the best sort of offering to be had on the internet...much like Peter's site in general.

I always feel guilty about sitting out from BOTV...time and bandwidth conspire against me. I often post from where I work, but it's not appropriate to download and listen to four or five songs at once...at home, my time is seized by family concerns and constricted by a dial up connection.

Either way, a toast to Roy. Let's drink to the hardworking people!
