Rickenbacker 350V63

Very easy to set up, Lou - and they tend to stay that way, so I haven't had to fiddle with them much at all.
As far as my amp settings are concerned I keep everything on my Roland JC-120 flat and use a Korg AX1500G pedal to get the sounds I want. Occasionally I'll use the amp's chorus and vibrato but I find I can get better effects out of the pedal. I must find time to do some experimenting with my AC30 - both with and without the Korg.
The bridge humbucker and 5th knob master volume control on my Monty Brown 350v63 make it a very versatile guitar.

Ken that looks real good can you post some
new pictures.
Howard I'm still playing with the sounds of
my AC-30TBX. I haven't hooked my Tonelab to
the amp yet I wonder how that would change the
sound. I also have an Alesis QuadraVerb GT from
the early 90's I'll have to try it thru the amp
to see how it changes the sound. What do you like
about your Roland JC-120 and how is it different
than your AC-30?

No other guitar sound as good as a Rickenbacker thru a Vox AC-30TBX
The JC-120 is a little 'cleaner' than the AC-30, Lou. Mind you, it's a little noisier too. I sort of went off the AC-30 a few months back when it seemed to lose some of its clarity and started to 'shimmer'. I think the Chinese tubes may need replacing and I just haven't got around to taking it to my tech for an appraisal.
I haven't really spent a lot of time experimenting with my amps - I just keep plugging into the Roland and Korg because it's my gigging and rehearsal setup and I know I can get the sounds I want. I haven't even experimented with the Korg all that much either - I just use the factory programs.
I have a Tonelab SE pedal that's hardly seen the light of day also, so there's much work to be done.

Kent the Maplejlow looks real good in the
pictures is this your main guitar when you
play out. I can't remember what amp that you
play thru. Do you have a Tonelab or anything
like that just to use at home?
Howard right now my only amp is my AC-30TBX
and what I've been doing at home is this. The
amp sits in the den on the new stand that I
just bought. I use the Tonelab more than I
ever used the amp. That way I don't bother
my wife or daughter.

Just recently got the 350v63 and I'm between bands these days as I just moved. Other than that I love it. My main guitar was a 360 through a Vox AC15. I have a feeling that this will become my co-main guitar in the future.
I had a Roland JC-60 and compared to the AC15, the Roland is MUCH cleaner.... much different. I like the versatility and warmthability of the tubed AC15.

Kent a friend of mine at one point hade a
Roland JC-120 and I never played thru it.
I did get to try one years ago at Mars Music
and it sounded real clean. What made you buy the
350V63 over lets say the 1997 reissue or the
381V69? Which pickups do you like the high gains
or the toasters or would you consider humbuckers
in the 350V63 or your 360. I have a friend who
also has a 350V63 bought it from the same music
store and he just bought a 330 12 string with
the high gains so now he has a lot of different
sounds. When I bought mine Jetjlow was only color
that the music store had in stock I asked about
one in Blueburst but they didn't want to ordered
that color they wouldn't go out of there way to
order one I was told we only get them in the
stock colors.

Hi Lou... I got the JC-60 as a solid state backup to the AC15. I only used it once for a gig (above pix is at Anna Bannanas in Honolulu circa 2004). Its a great amp and the chorus is fine, but the sound is very dry and cold compared to warmth of the the Vox. When I moved in the spring (from to HI to OR) I lightened my load and sold it.
Because of the move (I just closed on a house so will be moving into a more permanent place soon) I still haven't fully tried out the 350v63... only played it briefly through a Fender Deluxe. I did a side-by-side with my 360 and it's clear that the hi-gains vs toasters sound significantly different. And thats a GOOD thing as they will compliment eachother (I hope).
As for humbuckers in a Rickenbacker. YIPES! How could you THINK such a thing?
Bottom line is that I have plenty of other humbucker'ed guitars around so, no, I'd never do that to a Rick. (well, if someone offered to pay off my mortgage I would, but other than that, no.)

Kent I only said that because of the Susan Hoffs
has a humbucker in the bridge. With that said
I wonder how the 380L sounds with humbuckers?
I only seen them in pictures never had a chance
to play one but I'm from the old school never
had an amp with Gain or Master Volume. Good luck
in your new home still trying to get my wife to
move south. Have you ever played a reissue 1997
because that one Rickenbacker I would like to
own. If I sold my Gretsch then I could look for
one or I could look for another 350V63 in
Mapleglow, Fireglow or Blueburst,

Correct, Lou... the 350SH has a humbucker at the bridge. In fact IIRC the one she played at the House Of Blues last year had humbuckers in both the bridge and middle positions...... and a vertically mounted Fender 5-way pickup selector switch!
How does that grab ya, Brammy!!

There were lots of other Ricks there, Lou, but she only played her own black one (she has a white one as well). All of the artists on the bill played Ricks..... except one dude who insisted on playing his Telecaster!
I'll have to check the photos again to see what amp she was using. There was a JC-120 on stage but I think she may have been playing through a Fender. I'll get back to you on it.

Lou,
My 350 "Liverpool" has a humbucker in the bridge position. Aitch is able to give his thoughts on what that guitar sounds like as he has heard it first hand. To me it sounds like a cross between a Strat and a Gibson. Your thoughts Aitch?
