I've seen these in two UK shops now, offered as Korean Rickenbacker copies available in Fireglo and Jetglo. Allegedly made by Tokai.

Tokai is a Japanese guitar manufacturer:

I took a look around their site, and didn't see any copy guitars. All look to have unique shapes.

Of course that doesn't mean they didn't make them in the past...

Actually, Tokai is famous for making copies here in Japan, They make EB-0, ES-333, and Firebird Knock-offs, they're in all the guitar shops, it's no wonder they don't put them on their main site

I've played Tokai Fender Jazz ripoffs that played better than real Fenders.

Why won't Rickenbacker take the hint that there is a market for their basses in the lower price range?

That has been explained many times in the past. Wouldn't you rather aspire to a Rickenbacker than get the Chinese lead painted OLP version.

Seriously. They've got a 1-plus year backlog, plus they don't want to be like Fender or Gibson.

Well, the Chinese manufacturers make some very usable products (look at the mother board of almost any PC).

But if it isn't licensed, then it's thievery.

One of the best things about owning a Ric is that it is 100% USA made.When your talking to other guitarist's/bassist's ,and you get onto the subject of gear when you mention the Rickenbacker word you both know where it's made.

When you mention Fender or Gibson the next question is which one American,Mexico,Japan,China etc.Both are very well respected companies and have stamped their mark in music history,and have their own reasons for building outside of America and it's their choice.

Mr.Hall said once on the forum why he won't go down that road,and i hope he never does.My own opinion is that if ever that happened the Ric brand we know & love would be gone.
