Marc, sounds fairly simple, I would think either Paul or Dale could build it! Something extra I might suggest is a built in drink dispenser, because when you are all done folding, snapping, unfolding and "W-ing", you might need a drink to cool off! Image

Paul be nice now Image

I agree that buying one new is hard to take due to the resale, however they will make you anything you want. I also thought that they were very pleasant to deal with.

Nice trio. I've always been a sucker for Alembic's.

Dave, can please explain the controls (or lack of), on the dragon wing?

Very slick Dave. Please send the sharp SC(?) on the far left. That is a great looking axe.
I'm just happy to be here.

Nice Alembics Dave.

Paul, I always fold my stings before I put them away. Then I twist the ends together so I remember the order they go in.

Jeff, I ALWAYS need a drink. Seriously, isn't there some kind of convertible bass out there? I forgot the specifics.

The bikini was a guitar/bass with interchangeable necks into a singularly ugly body. As I recall, there was no string-folding involved.

Marc, are you sure you "fold" your strings? Perhaps you double them up (I coil mine), but the term "fold" (especially coupled with the "W" (sorry) concept, brings sharp corners to mind. Seems there has been a misconception...sorry for my persistence. I think we could finally be on the same page.

Sounds like a bunch of foldy-roll to me!

Sorry Paul, I was just kidding around.

As a young bassist I would however, boil, then coil my bass strings to extend their life as $25 a set was a small fortune to me in those days.

Now I just use chromes, and leave them on forever. Who woulda thunk it?

There are no plans in my future to build or have built and convertible bass. My friend asked me to post about an Exploiter bass, and my imagination got out of hand from the responses Image

If anyone does build the "W" convertible, it will be deemed a trademark infringement of the thoughts in my head, and they will be sentenced to live out the rest o their life in bass guitar purgatory.

I believe there is a pic in Tom Wheeler's American Guitar book.

There was a bikini on Ebay about 6 months ago. It brought far more than it was worth. Probably because of its rarity to a Gretsch collector...I'd say "less than 150 made", as a rough guess. Now, forty years later, there are only a handful left.
