"24 Sycamore" by Gene Pitney. For some reason, as sung by Wayne Fontana.
"She talks to rainbows" by the Ramones. Not sure it's really about breakup, but it really is heart wrenching. Imho, of course.

Ahhh, Frank penned a lot of lovely, heartwarming "broken hearts..." tunes...

Of all things, Don Henley's "Heart of the Matter" gets through my crusty exterior. I really like Warren Zevon's "Indifference of Heaven" and "Pictures of You" by the Cure.

One of the funniest "she done been treatin' me wrong" songs is "The Hula Hula Boys", by Warren Zevon. We've started playing that one.

Most heart wrenching break up song:

"Blue" by Figures on a Beach. Not a very well known band, but the song that hits home the most for me.

P.S. - To the "Ruben and the Jets" and Zappa references in this thread - I submit that the most heart wrenching break up song in the Zappa catalog is "Watermelon in Easter Hay" from Joe's Garage. Granted, this song has no lyrics at all, but in true Zappa form, sometimes lyrics aren't needed to get emotion across.
