Lately it's been the 4003. But I change my mind back and forth between it and the 4001 all the time.

I guess it's kind of creepy, but it feels about the same to me as having four dogs and only petting one of them. I actually feel guilty if I neglect one for a while.

This guy has been with me for 35 years, so he's earned his keep.

This one makes some really great sounds if you're feeling creative, though working them in with other instruments can be quite a challenge.

Image

This one's great when you want to make some thunder.

Image

and this one will do both clean and dirty as well as anything I've ever played, plus make a good, solid generic bass tone for recording.

Favorite?? I don't know - what day is it?...and remind me to buy a 4003 or 4004 some time to further confuse the issue. Never owned a Fender either, so one of these days I should probably try one. I hear they're fairly popular.

1958 4000 single pickup Rickenbacker and a Hofner for it's unique tone.

Definitely a 4005 with slightly high action. I can dig into it like no other bass! The bridge design also lends itself to palm muting when playing with a pick.

My 1988 V63. Crazy low action, skinny neck, killer sound.

Todd, what is that first bass? It looks really sweet! Are all those electronics original? What a cool looking bass!

Don't get me wrong, I really dig my C64, but I find myself gravitating to my 500/1 V63 on most occasions. Being somewhat "vertically challenged", I like the short scale of the Hofner. Plus the tone from that little thing is huge and it's loads of fun to play!

My favorite bass to play out is my Fireglo V63, and my favorite to sit around playing in the living room is probably my JB. It's neck it probably second only to Jeffrey's '67 4005.
Here's an old and rather poor picture of the V.

And the JB with friend.

Why the one on my left, of course!!

The fact that it's my only bass has absolutely nothing to do with it!! Image

I like my hot rodded Jazz (SDs, Shallers, BadAss) and the Abomination. I split stage time with them evenly, pretty much but I record with the Jazz.

The Yamaha doesn't get played too much anymore but it should. It's a great 5 string.
Listen to that sustain!

Right at the moment it's my new-to-me '67 Starfire I:

I put new strings (LaBella flats) on it and adjusted the action and intonation and now it's a dream to play!

I like my basses for the different feels and unique sounds they each possess, and my "favorite to play" is always changing...
