Pot codes
My '65 4001 has an unreadable serial number - worn right away. I checked the pot codes and they are (from what I can see) :-
31056 137 6438
.............79 6437
.........3279 6437
..........137 6438
Does that tie in with the date of 1965 guys?

Graham, that would make the MFG. date as late September or early October of 1964, so there is the possibility that it could have been late 1964. But then it all depends on how many Pots Rick used when it got around to building your Bass. You could take your jack plate with the worn serial # to a coin dealer, they have a special acid that can restore the dates on coins to make them readable, maybe they can do it for you, those numbers are stamped into the metal so this means they go deep into it. A gun smith also may be able to restore your number as to make it legible.

First I ever heard of it, and there are a couple years that are hazy for me. I'm over 50 also.
