I was'nt sure Ed. Im a little out of the "vintage" pricing loop.

Thats why I called out to the other forum members.

It's probably close, Scott. All I can go on is the little I see scanning e-Bay, as I haven't bought a vintage bass since...well, never, since I bought my 75 in 1981!

Was hardly a "vintage" piece then.

It does have the 1/2" spacing for the neck PU, and white with BT isn't exactly common. If it were put up on e-Bay it might provoke a bidding frenzy like that pristine BG a while ago (where the idiot dropped it taking it out of the case) that initially went up to about $3K...

But with the emotions attached to it for Cris, I can't really see that a "price" is fair to affix to that instrument.

I haven't read this thread but since you're asking for my thoughts they're usually something like this:

"Sex, bass, beer, work, sex, bass, sex, music, eat, sex, write a song, eat, pet kitty, sex, bathroom, internet post, sex."

Chris: Welcome and I am very sorry about your loss ...

If you do sell then get an "expert" opinion so you don't sell something too cheap ... If you have a lot of equipment then you may want to keep some and sell some ...

Keep it. Play it. Doesn't matter if you play it well, I'm willing to bet you'll feel something when you do that'll blow away any money you'd make from it.

Thanks again everyone, and I'm going to keep the Ric. I know I would be kicking myself in the a$$ if I sold it. There are some things that I need to get rid of, but the Ric isn't on the list.

As far learning how to play...I would love to. Hopefully sometime soon.

If you don't mind me hanging around, I would love to and I'm still reading some great threads

Hi Cris. I hope you feel better every day. You know, I sometimes find myself sitting back and marveling at the beauty of my '72 4001. It's a very dark Burgundy color, Burgundyglo, and the shape of it, the weight and the balance of it, the beautiful mother of pearl inlays and checkerboard binding, the whole artistry of its design and the craftsmanship involved in it's making, they all just fill me with joy and wonder. I'm just saying that I'm fairly certain your husband had what a lot of us have: a devotion to that Rickenbacker. Believe me, to some of us, it's better than chocolate.

Whether or not you learn to play, it feels good to plug in a 4001 and just play the strings, here and there, wherever. It makes a gorgeous deep, resonant, bright sound. If Mike loved that bass, then maybe some of his favorite memories are bound to that bass, memories that only he would remember best. Anyroad, best wishes to you, and welcome to a friendly place.

Hi Cris and welcome. My deepest sympathies go out to you. I agree with those who say keep the bass and learn to play and enjoy it like your husband did. It will enhance you memories of Mike by keeping and playing something he loved. I've kept several things that belonged to my late father, and they do make you feel closer to that special person. If you do decide to sell it, take your time. Find someone who will give you a fair price, and play and take care of it.
