If you say so. I don't find the sound thin at all. It's all subjective as to what fits your definition of what a bass should sound like.

If it has 4 strings tuned an octave lower than a guitar and looks like a bass.....then it's a bass. Image

I like his sound for what he does, would not work many other places, but that's what makes him an original. I'm going by his older stuff though, I've never heard one of the signature series basses. There's a short article about him in this months bassplayer, he's pictured with a 4003, also a review of a somewhat modified 1959 4000.

Hmm, I'm with Sean and Brian on this one. One of my favourite sounds of all time. In fact I think his sound is a lot BETTER than the basses look. As for thin, have you ever seen him live? If that's thin, I dread to hear what fat sounds like. He sounds like a bulldozer driving through a house.

I agree with Bob, there aren't many places his sound would fit, but that's kind of the point.

Any Lemmy bashers should listen to Hawkwind's seminal live album 'Space Ritual' - his propulsive playing (on a Rick but without the heavy Morohead-type overdrive) keeps the whole acid-tinged show on the road and is absolutely superb - I would recommend that anyone who enjoys bass and rock should listen to this album

...but he's supposed to have switched to a Minarik Inferno with individually-tuned flame tips.

No accounting for taste, I suppose.

Here's the Shredmistress at NAMM:

Oh, goody. Then all the hoopla was just promotional nonsense.

I feel a tiny bit cynical about the music bidnezz.
