Four Pennies
Four Pennies
Yet another beat group member from the 60's has passed away, Fritz Fryer was the lead guitarist for The Four Pennies, a name that will not mean anything to those over the Atlantic as they did not make any impression in States.
Even here they only notched up 6 top 50 hits, but track here, as before don't have to download, it will play, was their finest hour number 1 in April 64.
Originally this was released on the B side of their second single, but some radio DJ felt this was the better track and begin to play it, result was numerous requests going to station asking how to get hold of it.
Record company recalled the single and reversed the sides, it was a huge hit here in UK.
Whilst I thought they released some good singles they could never find another one like this, in fact they never made top 10 again.

TODAY'S THE FIRST DAY OF THE REST OF YOUR LIFE
A great song Roy and with a vocal talent equal to many songs of the era that went to the top.
What I like about it is the guitar band aspect. Had this been recorded for the American market there would most likely have been an orchestra to boot.
Another case in which less is more and another great track for the collection. Thanks for this gem.

Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Black Girl was a great song. I don't remember the other two unfortunately. They're lost in the mists of time I suppose.

"Juliet" was their number one hit in the UK and their follow up was "I Found Out The Hard Way".winston wrote:Black Girl was a great song. I don't remember the other two unfortunately. They're lost in the mists of time I suppose.
