Well, even though James Grove's 4001 is not a 'Rickenbacker', it certainly is not a (Japanese or whatever) copy either, which is what I was trying to ascertain and prove. Many thanks again for setting the record straight, John.
A Rickenbacker bass is much like the Jaguar E car - perennially ultra-fashionable.
Gee, look what you're talking about...I've come to the conclusion that it isn't the bass originally attached to the jack plate & serial number. That bass was a fretless in Fireglo. I don't see how you could get the color out of the end grain. I'm no expert though.
Even if I blow off a day at work to drive up, I'm not exactly sure what JH and RIC get out of it, aside from a bit of diversion. If anybody is in San Diego, I can probably find some time for you to look at it.
