If anyone does get in touch with the seller, I'd be happy to check it out for you.

Good sleuthing, Graham. Same bass in both photos and the ebay text, right down to the missing knob top.

I think this one is my favorite, BTW: "The frets have only minor wear and excellent."

I just received this email from the seller

"Hello,
Thank you for your email. The bass it's still for sale.
Right now i'm on my honeymoon in Hawaii, but i hope that's not going to be a problem because i can still handle the transaction. When i left in my honeymoon, i left the bass along with several other items in the custody of iSold It because i wanted to sell them on eBay when i return, but now i need money here to buy an important gift to my wife and decided to sell this one before we get back.
So if you are still interested, let me know and i will explain you how iSold It works. The shipping is free.
Thanks"

There was an ad in the UK for a 79 4005 @ 1500 GBP a few weeks ago along the same lines.

The "seller" could not meet or even talk on the phone about the bass...

Same old scam (you send me the money, I say "Chuck you, Farley"), just a new package for it.

strange that they have gravitated to Rickenbacker 4005s for doing this. this is the second time this is happened in recent memory, with a FG 4005 (ripped from a different auction).

guess they have figured out that most of us would lose our heads / senses to land one.

I wondered about credibility when I noticed it didn't say which part of town the seller was in. This usually means they are posting from elsewhere and fishing for suckers. And sure enough...

Every ad in Minneapolis that I have tried to contact when it didn't mention where they were has always been a BS-er. What a shame.

Well I'll be dipped! You guys make Kojak look like a moron. Good sleuthing by all. Proof that you can't buy anything without checking here first!
